Cox, Theodore C.

Rhinebeck, NY – Theodore C. Cox, 83, passed away Thursday, May 6, 2010, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital.

Mr. Cox was born August 12, 1926 in Bunceton, MO, to Stanley and Mary Belle (Coughenour) Cox.  He was raised and attended school  in Harrisonville, MO.  Following High School he served in the 99th Infantry Division in Germany during WW II; and upon his return graduated from the University of Missouri with a degree in electrical engineering. 

Mr. Cox was an engineer and planner at IBM in Poughkeepsie and Kingston until his retirement in 1987.  Following retirement he was a trustee and chairman of the Council of Financial Affairs at the Good Shepherd Church, Rhinebeck.  He was also an AARP volunteer tax aid for 22 years.

Mr. Cox was a member of the American Legion Montgomery Post #429, the IBM Quarter Century Club, and enjoyed genealogy and travel .  He was also very supportive of the PIME Missionaries, the Christian Foundation for Children and Aging, and Doctors without Borders. 

On July 12, 1958, at St. Michael Byzantine Cathedral, Passaic, NJ, he married Mary Tay.  Mrs. Cox survives at home in Rhinebeck. 

In addition, he is survived by four daughters, Jean Labanowski, and her husband Brian of Scarborough, ME; Mary’ Kathy’ Marshall, and her husband David of York, ME; Susan Cox, and her husband Robert Newshutz of Rochester, MN; and Theresa D. Cox of Valatie, NY; six grandchildren, Christopher and Emily Marshall, Tamara and Julia Labanowski, William and Henry Newshutz; a sister Barbara Briggs; a niece Nancy Briggs; and two nephews, Patrick and Thomas Briggs. Also surviving are a brother-in-law John Tay, and his sons John R. and Charles Tay; a sister-in-law Ann Tay, and her children David Tay and Jennifer Pascucci; a brother-in-law Robert Tay and his wife Helene.

He was predeceased by a brother Eugene Cox, a brother-in-law Thomas Tay and a nephew Kevin Tay.

Calling hours are Sunday, 5 to 8 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. 

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Monday, 11 AM, at the Good Shepherd Church, East Market St., Rhinebeck.  Interment with military honors will be in the St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Rhinecliff.

Memorial donations may be made to a Christian charity of Choice.
