Esmonde, Ruth M.

Rhinebeck – Ruth M. Esmonde of Rhinebeck, NY died on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Ferncliff Nursing Home in Rhinebeck. She was 96 years old.

Born in Brooklyn, NY in 1913 she was the third child of the late Thomas Esmonde and Esther (Finegan) Esmonde who came to the United States from Ireland. She was educated in the Catholic school system in Brooklyn.

For most of her life she lived in Brooklyn and for many years was employed by the New York City Board of Education at their headquarters in Brooklyn. For over thirty-five years she has been a resident of Dutchess County, living in both Red Hook and Rhinebeck.

Miss Esmonde was pre-deceased by her parents, her brother Thomas and her sister Muriel Mahoney. She was the loving “Aunt Ruthie” to several nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews who live throughout the country.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home in Rhinebeck. There are no calling hours. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck where she was a parishioner on Tuesday, May 17, 2010 at 10AM. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in New York City.
