Langhans, Helen Dorothy

Rhinebeck - Helen Dorothy Langhans, 85, passed away Saturday, December
29, 2007 at the Thompson House, Rhinebeck.

Born April 3, 1922 on the Herrick farm, which was located on what is
now the Wilcox Park in Milan.

Helen's parents were Charles S. Herrick and Mabel Simmons Herrick of Milan.

Helen married Richard Coon, of Milan, on December 16, 1939.

In October of 1953, Helen married Robert A. Langhans who died March 9,
1977. Together they owned and operated Gus's Motor Rest on Route 9,
which was established in 1946 and was in operation until 1966 (this is
the current Lenahan & Lopez Restaurant). In 1966, they purchased
Bob's Rhinebeck Tavern (currently the Panda Restaurant) and ran it
until she retired in 1977.

Helen was a life member of the Red Hook Veterans of Foreign Wars
Auxiliary. She was also a member of the Rhinebeck American Legion
Post #429 Auxiliary, member of the Red Hook Elks Club #2022 and the
Rhinebeck AARP. She was a past member of the Dutchess County Liquor
Dealers Association and a past bar steward of the Kingston Power Boat
Association.

Survivors include a son, Reginald Coon, of Milan, two daughters
Roberta Bloomer of Red Hook and Linda Kannal of Las Vegas, Nevada; one
brother, Winifred Herrick, of LaGrangeville; five grandsons, two
granddaughters, one great granddaughter, and several nieces and
nephews and cousins; and a close friend of many years Gerald Weaver.

A brother Harold J. Herrick of Cranford, NJ and a sister Gertrude
Staley Melody of Rhinebeck died previously.

Calling hours are Thursday, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 PM, at the
Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St. Rhinebeck. Funeral
services are Friday, 10 AM, at the funeral home.
Interment will be in St. Joseph's Cemetery, Rhinecliff.

Memorial donations may be made to one of the organizations Helen was a
member of or the Thompson House.
