Malafy, Steve
Steve Malafy Sr.,
89 of Morehouse Lane in Milan, NY died on Saturday July 5, 2008 at the
Kingston Hospital, Kingston NY.
He was born on
September 10, 1918 in Woodhaven, NY the son of the late Samuel and Ursula
Malafy.
Mr. Malafy had
been employed as a butcher in and around the New York City area for
many years.
He served his country
during World War II as a member of the United States Army and survived
the Battle of Monte Cassino.
Mr. Malafy was
also a survivor of the Artificial Famine and Genocide instigated by
Soviet leader Joseph Stalin that occurred from 1932 – 1933 in
the Ukraine. This man made famine resulted in the deaths of between
7 and 10 million people, mostly Ukranians.
Survivors include
his three sons, David Malafy of Tunnel Hill, GA; Steve Malafy of Rhinebeck
and Joseph Malafy of Milan. He is also survived by four grandchildren,
Andrew, Lindsey, Samuel and Hannah, a nephew, Daniel Malafy along with
other nieces and nephews in the Ukraine.
Mr. Malafy was
pre – deceased by his wife, Anna (Rotko) Malafy on October 23,
2005.
Funeral services
will be held on Wednesday July 9, 2008 at 10 AM from the Dapson –
Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market St in Rhinebeck, NY.
Friends are invited
and may call on Tuesday July 8, 2008 from 2 – 4 and 7 –
9 PM at the funeral home.
Interment will
be held in the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
