To Jan, children, grandchildren, and family and friends - I am very sorry to hear of John's passing..... Although I knew him when I grew up in Rhinebeck, I remember meeting him one time when I was leaving Dutchess Community College after a class. I had returned to college later in my life and as I returned to the parking lot, I ran into John... I hadn't seen him in many years! We both were surprised at the meeting and chatted - what a great smile he had and what a great "catch up" conversation we had! Funny how those memories stick with you! I don't think I ever ran into John again until I attended a winetasting event at the Dutchess Co. Fairgrounds and there was John and Jan at a table! Always a very personable man and a smile that lit up a room! My sincere condolences to his family. May you all find strength in the wonderful memories of joy, love and laughter....... My Best to All................Laurie Harter

Dear Jan and family, I first met John about 55 years ago at Vander Leith's office at 9 and 9G. I recognized that he was a real gentleman. The years since have verified my first impression! Over the years he always took time to say "hello", no matter how busy he was. When we worked on the same job, he took the time to help me with any problem. It was a privilege to call him a friend!
