Milan - John Thomas White, 84, passed away Sunday, June 18th, 2017, at the Northern Dutchess Hospital.

John proudly served in the US Army 2nd Infantry Division from 1950 - 1953 during the Korean War.

He was a member of the Red Hook V.F.W. # 7765, the American Legion Montgomery Post #429, Rhinebeck, and the Good Shepherd Church.

John attended NYU where he received his business degree and began his career as a salesman for Kimberly-Clarke and Parker Pen. In 1969 he opened Consumer Auto Parts in Hyde Park; and in 1972 he opened Dutchess Auto Parts in Rhinebeck. He also owned and managed the mall of shops were the business was located in Rhinebeck.

Born in New York City on September 12, 1932, he was the son of the late Ferdinand J. and Margaret (Lawlor) White.

On June 7, 1958 at the Good Shepherd Church, he married Jean Marie O'Kie. Mrs. White passed away November 1, 2004.

John is survived by his three children; James E. White, and his wife Carol of Milan, Ann Marie Kirschenheiter, and her husband Frank of Milan, and Jean Marie Steward, and her husband David of Milan; seven grandchildren, Daniel (Val) and Kevin White, Thomas and Michael Kirschenheiter, Sarah, David and Jessica Steward; five great grandchildren, Caden, David, Charlotte, Sean and Shane; and many nieces and nephews.

Calling hours are Thursday, June 22nd, 4 to 7 PM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, 1:00 PM, at the Good Shepherd Church, Rhinebeck. Interment will follow with full military honors at the Rhinebeck Cemetery.

The family is grateful to the Milan Rescue Squad for the expert care they provided to John at his home. To acknowledge their effort the family requests memorial donations to the Milan Rescue Squad, 900 Route 199, Milan, NY 12571.
