Singer, Blanche P.
Red Hook –
Blanche P. Singer, 95, passed away Tuesday, May 27, 2008, at her home
in Red Hook.
Mrs. Singer has
resided in the Staatsburg and Red Hook communities for more than 43
years. She was a graduate of Cornell University and received a Masters
degree in education and physical education from New York University.
For many years she worked as a Real Estate Broker for Helen Z. Battistoni
Real Estate; as the owner of Flash Copy, Kingston, NY and Singer’s
Arts and Crafts, Red Hook; and as a substitute teacher at Red Hook and
Rhinebeck Schools.
She was a member
of Temple Emmanuel and Hadassah, Kingston; The Rhinebeck Choral Club
since 1991; and the Rhinebeck Theater Society. Mrs. Singer volunteered
many hours for the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce, The Baptist Home,
Brail Book Club, The Northern Dutchess Hospital Thrift Shop, and for
the Organization for Rehabilitation Through Training (ORT).
She was an avid
bridge player and teacher, and enjoyed playing weekly Scrabble games
at the Starr Library.
Born August 12,
1941 in Hunter, NY, she was the daughter of Simon and Clara Pearlman.
Mrs. Signer was
predeceased in 1974 by her husband, Leon Singer, whom she married in
1941 at Essex House, NY; her son Ira T. Singer in 2002; and a brother
Murray Pearlman.
She is survived
by two grandchildren Leo and Alexandra; and many friends, including
Joan Plotsky and Charles Watson.
Funeral services
are Thursday, 11 AM, at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market
St.
Burial will be in
the St. Paul’s Cemetery, Red Hook.
