
Steiner, John
Dr. John Steiner DVM, DACT,
64, passed away Monday, May 26, 2008, at the Albany Medical Center.
Dr. Steiner attended the
NY State College of Agriculture at Cornell University and graduated
from the NY State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell in 1968.
In 1970 Dr. Steiner founded an equine practice in Mahopac, NY; in 1989
he sold his practice and started an equine practice in Lexington, KY.
In 1992, he joined Hagyard, Davidson and McGee in Lexington were he
specialized in stallion and mare reproduction. Most recently Dr. Steiner
began working with Rhinebeck Equine as a Theriogenalogist.
He was a diplomate of the
American College of Theriogenologists, and served as President in 2005-2006.
Dr. Steiner was born April
11, 1944 in the Bronx, NY, to John and Ludmilla Steiner.
He is survived by his wife
Geri Steiner of Lexington, KY, two children Jeffrey and Jennifer Stiener
of Connecticut; a sister Hilda McDonald of Treasure Island, Fl; two
step-children, Melinda Sponseller of Cincinnati, OH, and Peter Boulong
of Lexington, KY; three grandchildren, Megan Boulong, and Charles and
Owen Sponseller; and his very good friend and colleague Glenda Meadows
of Lexington, KY.
Friends will be received
Wednesday beginning at 1 PM; a celebration of Dr. Steiner’s life
will begin at 2 PM. A reception will follow the celebration at Café
Lucchaela at the Red Hook Golf Course.
In lieu of flowers,
the family has requested that anyone wishing to make a gift in honor
of John do so to a joint AAEP/SFT/ACT Memorial Fund that has been established
through the AAEP Foundation. Donations can be sent in Dr. Steiner’s
