Rhinebeck - Betty Whittaker, 73, passed away Friday, September 24, 2004, at Columbia Memorial Hospital, Hudson.

Mrs. Whittaker has been a resident of Green Manor Adult Home since April 2002.

She was a graduate of Business School in Albany and had been employed for 25 years in the business office of the Red Hook Telephone Company and its successor the Continental Telephone Company. Following her retirement she returned to work as a bookkeeper for Walt Schad Plumbing and Heating, Rhinebeck.

She was born December 9, 1930 at Ellis Hospital, Schenectady, the daughter of Leslie and Evelyn (Hall) Holcombe.

On December 2, 1950, she married Gene H. Whittaker. Mr. Whittaker passed away December 17, 2003.

Mrs. Whittaker is survived by a daughter Susan Wilber and her husband, John of Pine Plains, a son Gary Whittaker and his wife, Susan of Red Hook, seven grandchildren Laura Rosato, Craig Wilber, Joshua Whittaker, Natalie Helm, Caitlin Helm, Jason Helm and Ian Helm, and 2 great grandchildren Carly and Bryant Rosato. She was predeceased by a brother William Holcombe.

Calling hours are Sunday, September 26, 2004, 4 to 7 PM at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck. Funeral services are Monday, 11 AM at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in the Rhinebeck Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rhinebeck Fire Dept., 78 E. Market St. Rhinebeck.
