Edwin Faber, Jr. Obituary

Rhinebeck - Edwin Corning Faber, Jr., 86, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 at Archcare at Ferncliff Nursing Home.

Born May 3, 1932 in Orange, NJ, he was the son of Edwin C. Faber, Sr. and Eleanor Van Nuyse Faber.

Ed received his Mechanical Engineering degree from Cornell in 1955.  He worked for 2 years at Proctor & Gamble, then spent a year traveling around the world with a friend on $1.00/day.  On his return to the U.S., he came to Western Printing in Poughkeepsie.  He visited St. Lucia, West Indies as a consultant in the late 1960's and decided to start a new hand assembly business there; in 1968 he founded Manu-Matics Ltd.

On April 19, 1969, he married Linda Niles; they moved to St. Lucia in 1970.

Returning back to the Hudson Valley in 1976, Ed started a new company, South American Development Corporation, to work with Manu-Matics Ltd and eventually with St. Vincent Electronics Ltd which he established in St. Vincent.

Ed was a hiker, mycologist, fly-fisherman, piano and banjo player and champion squash player.  He climbed all of the 3500' peaks of the Catskills (many of them several times) with beloved dogs.  He was a steward at Burger Hill and a founding member of Dollars for Scholars in Rhinebeck.  Ed rarely found a stone or a person that did not interest him.

Linda survives at home in Rhinebeck. Ed is also survived by his two children:  Edwin "Win" C. Faber, III (Julie) of Red Hook; Amy Faber Knobbs (Scott) of Seattle; three grandchildren: Samuel Faber, Katherine Knobbs and Emma Knobbs; a niece, Barbie Painter; a nephew Corning Painter (Dorothy) and great nephews Kyle Painter, Edward Painter and John Painter.  He was predeceased by a sister, Joan Painter.

A memorial service will be Friday, September 28 at 1 pm at Church of the Messiah, 6436 Montgomery Street in Rhinebeck. Interment will be at St. John the Evangelist in Barrytown prior to the service.
