George A Zulch

May 22, 1925 ~ August 29, 2017 (age 92) 92 Years Old

 

Rhinebeck- George Zulch, 92, of Rhinebeck, NY, passed away on Tuesday August 29, at the Terraces in Rhinebeck.

Born in the Bronx on May 22, 1925, he was the son of the late George W. and Mary (Herd) Zulch.

After graduating from Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx, George served in the Army Air Corps in England during WWII. He returned home and was a firefighter for FDNY until 1976. He also owned and operated a house painting business while raising his family.

On August 28, 1948, he married the love of his life, Kathleen Donovan. Kathleen predeceased George on January 28, 2013.

George was a deeply devoted family man and he got along well with everyone. He loved a good puzzle and was a sports enthusiast. He also spent time volunteering at Calvary Hospital in the Bronx.

In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by his parents and two sisters.

George is survived by his sons George D. (Gudrun Boettger) and Kevin (Lisa); his daughters Donna (Keith Greeney) Zulch and Noreen (Nancy Ortega) Zulch; his grandchildren Keith Mulhern, Sebastian, and Jessica Zulch; step grandchildren Lewis and Andrew Greeney and Amanda and Jennifer Rodriguez as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, on Friday September 1 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 PM.

Mass will be celebrated on Saturday September 2 at the Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck at 10:30AM. Burial will follow at the Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla where he will be laid to rest next to his wife, Kathleen.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of George can be made to the FDNY Widows Fund. Uniformed Firefighters Association
