Gloria Edith Day

Gloria Edith Day, 93, passed away peacefully at her home in Red Hook on July 7, 2017, surrounded by her loving nieces. 

Born on July 20, 1923, in Rhinebeck, New York, she was the daughter of the late Mynard and Alma M. (Ostrander) Unson. 

On July 22, 1951, she married Harold W. Day at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Poughkeepsie, NY. Mr. Day passed away in 2012 after celebrating 61 years of marriage. 

Gloria and Harold lived in Kentucky for 40 years, a place that she always considered her home. 

She loved to watch the Kentucky Derby. She also enjoyed the Kentucky basketball teams and was a huge fan, In Kentucky she also enjoyed golf, and bridge. 

In addition to her husband, Gloria was predeceased by her parents and her beloved sister Gladys A. Unson. 

She is survived by her brother-in-law Chester Day and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her cousin Lorraine "Chirpie" (Warren) Peterson; second cousins Steve (Stacey) and their children Jackie and Shane, John (Rosa) and their children Eliana and Elianny. She is also survived by The Lewis Family and Snyder family of Kentucky whom she was very close to, proud of and spoke of fondly and often. 

In lieu of flowers, Memorial Donations to the Dutchess County SPCA 636 Violet Ave, Hyde Park, NY 12538 would be appreciated. Gloria loved animals; especially cats. 

Calling hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., on Wednesday, July 12, 2017 from 11 AM to 1 PM. 

Funeral Services will be held at the funeral home at 1:00 p.m. Burial will follow in the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
