Rhinebeck - John F. McGuire Jr., 76, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away on July 3, 2017. 

John was the owner of McGuire Construction Corp. since 1966 and most recently McGuire Consulting until the time of his passing. He also pursued numerous other careers as the co-owner, with his wife Jan, of Olde Mill Wine & Spirits; sales representative of Adirondack Fire Equipment Co.; partner in Provo Associates (real estate acquisition and development); as a consultant to Dr. Konstatnin Frank Vinifera Vineyards; and as a manager of numerous business properties in the area. 

John was also very involved in his community in many ways; he served for over 60 years as a volunteer, chief and president of the Hillside (life member) and Rhinebeck Fire Departments; the Rhinebeck Chamber of Commerce; Wilderstein Preservation Historic Site; Rhinebeck Rotary: Rhinebeck Theatre Society; and the Dutchess County Agricultural Society. John was the recipient of the 2015 Rhinebeck Fire Dept. Outstanding Service Award, Hillside Fire District 1980 Firefighter of the year and 2010 Fireman of the year, and inductee to the Dutchess County Sports Museum Hall of Fame. John also spent more than 20 years as a youth sports coach in Rhinebeck and was co-founder of the Rhinebeck Soccer League. 

Born May 28, 1941 in Manhattan, he was the son of John F. and Ann (Hoey), Sr. 

In addition to his wife Jan, he is survived by his children Sean P. McGuire and Seth A. McGuire; and his grandchildren Kyle, Ryan, Sheridan, and McKinley. 

He was predeceased by his first wife, Dorann Rastetter McGuire on July 27, 1968; and their daughter Jacqueline Ann McGuire on July 16, 1967 

Memorial Calling Hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck on Monday July 10 from 4 to 7 PM. 

A graveside service with Honors provided by the Rhinebeck Fire Dept. will be held at the Rhinebeck Cemetery on July 11th at 11 AM. 

Memorial contributions in honor of John can be made to any of the many Rhinebeck Community organizations he was part of.
