Lucia (Rockwell) Hitt

December 30, 1930 ~ July 12, 2017 (age 86) 86 Years Old

Milan- Lucia Rockwell Hitt, artist and beloved mother of four children, passed away peacefully in her home on July 12, 2017.

Lucia was born December 30, 1930 in Middletown, New York to the late Earl and Louise (Kassel) Rockwell.

As a manager trainee at IBM, she met and married William C. Hitt. As a mom and homemaker, she made time to pursue her passion – painting. “The Leatherman”, one of her earliest oil paintings, was on display several months at the Pound Ridge Museum. . Her artist’s eye showed itself not only in her oil and watercolor paintings, but also in sculptures and in her beautiful gardens.

She was a voracious reader and enjoyed a good murder mystery as well as a Shakespeare Sonnet.

Lucia’s surviving family include her son Mark Hitt and his partner Marianne DeAngelis, son Paul Hitt and his wife Susan, son Jeff Hitt and his partner Jacqui Sim, and a daughter Pamela (Hit) Hermann and her husband Lorenz. Grandchildren include Eugene Hitt and his wife Meredith, Jeffrey K. Hitt and his wife Penny, Lindsay (Hermann) McKeough and her husband Andrew, Andrew Hitt, Harrison Hitt, Jesse Hitt, and Lucie Sim. Great grandchildren include Maddox McKeough, Vincent Hitt, and Tristan Hitt. Lucia is also survived by brothers Vernon and Eugene Rockwell, her ex-husband William C. Hitt, and many nieces and nephews.

 She is predeceased by brothers Earl and Vinton Rockwell and sisters Dorothy Rockwell, Doris Rockwell Gottilly and her twin sister Lucille Rockwell Hales.

A private memorial service will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 West Market Street, Rhinebeck, at the convenience of the family.
