Peter Joseph Menconeri

Milan – Peter Joseph Menconeri, 54, passed away, Thursday, March 8, 2018, at home.

Pete was a beloved and accomplished son, husband, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, nephew, and mentor. He dedicated his life to his family and to helping teens at River Haven Youth Shelter, where he was Program Director and has worked since 1985. The depth and range of his interests was vast, but he was ardent about music, hiking, surfing, kayaking, sailing, cheese, science, movies, being at the ocean and in nature, and most of all spending time with his family. He loved traveling to California and the Florida Keys to be with his children, going to Cape Cod, and exploring cities like NYC, and Boston where he grew up. He could fix anything. While working full time, he earned degrees from Dutchess Community College, a Bachelor of Science in Biology (Magna Cum Laude) with a minor in Chemistry from SUNY New Paltz, and a Master’s in Education from Marist College.
Pete had a talent for connecting with and understanding people. He had a tender heart, an incomparable and voracious intellect, and a playful sense of humor. He played guitar, harmonica and saxophone, took care of others, wrote, kept bees, and repaired and rebuilt cars. He knew how to build anything and worked independently as a carpenter throughout his life. He created masterpieces with wood, including the light filled expansions at the home he shared with his family in Milan, NY.
Born January 30, 1964 in Wisconsin, he is the son of Catherine Menconeri who survives, and the late Peter J. Menconeri Sr.
Peter also leaves behind his wife Donna; his children, Aja (Chris), and their daughter Lena; KatieRose (Peter); Mary Claire (Matt); and Peter (Jake); sister Kate (Michael), and their son Benjamin; Uncles Raymond (Eileen) and Richard (Nancy), Aunts Mary (Phil) and Alice (Bob), brother and sister-in-law Scott and Clo, nephew, niece, cousins, and dear friends.

A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, March 22nd, from 2 to 5 PM at Staatsburgh State Historic Site (Mills Mansion) Power House, riverfront on Mills Mansion Road, Staatsburgh, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to River Haven Youth Shelter at Hudson River Housing.
