Ruby B. Allen

Rhinebeck - Ruby B. Allen, 90 , passed away Friday, June 2, 2017, at Northern Dutchess Hospital, Rhinebeck.

Ruby had worked at Schatz Federal Bearing & the A&P in Rhinebeck; in addition, she was the manager of the Book Store in Rhinebeck and an Avon Representative. For over 35 years Ruby volunteered at the Northern Dutchess Hospital as the Manager and Buyer for the Gift Shop. She was also an active member of the Reformed Church of Rhinebeck; as a member of the Healing Presence Committee she was a spiritual care provider who visited homebound parishioners, nursing home residents and hospital patients to provide comfort and offer prayers.

She was born in Poughkeepsie on March 15, 1927; shortly after birth her mother, Blanche Crouse Barnhart, passed away and Ruby was raised in Clinton Corners by her grandmother Olive Dykeman.

On May 28, 1950 at the Rhinecliff United Methodist Church, she married William R. 'Bill' Allen. Mr. Allen passed away January 18, 2015.

Ruby is survived by a son Robert W. Allen, and his wife Amy of Rhinebeck; three grandchildren, Sarah (Joseph) Raco, Rebekah (Jeremiah) Licis, and Angelica Frank; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend Samantha Mooney.

She was predeceased by her daughter Leah Marie Allen on September 18, 1996; her parents Harold and Blanche Barnhart; and four brothers and one sister.

There are no calling hours.

Memorial services are Friday, June 16th, 11 AM, at the Reformed Church of Rhinebeck. Following a reception at the church hall, interment will be at Rhinebeck Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Reformed Church of Rhinebeck.
