Arcadia, FL - Walter Nesel, 86, a long-time resident of Rhinebeck NY passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord at home on January 20th 2019. His loving wife Donna was by his side.
He was born in Staten Island, NY on June 22nd 1932 and was raised in a Catholic orphanage after the loss of his loving mother Helen Flanigan when he was a small boy. His faith remained strong thru his entire life.
He was a combat veteran of the Korean War serving in Easy Company, 17th Regiment, 7th Infantry Division US ARMY. He achieved the rank of Sgt. 1st Class. His love of country was strong.
After the war he was employed by New York Telephone as a splicer on the "Cable Queen". Later he moved to upstate NY and worked as a lineman. He retired from NY Telephone in 1981.
Walt's passion in life was being Scoutmaster of the Boy Scouts of Troop 128 in Rhinebeck NY. He loved this most of all.
He is survived by his wife Donna Nesel of 32 years. Their love was strong and they enjoyed their many years together in the Sunshine State.
He is also survived by his son Dennis Nesel and wife Jeanette Nesel of Germantown NY, his son Gerard Nesel and wife Joanie Nesel of Merritt Island Florida, his son John Nesel Sr. of Vintonton NY, and his daughter Helen Nesel-Knapp of Rhinebeck NY.
He loved his grandchildren Meghan Nesel, Johnny Nesel, Tommy Nesel, Molly Nesel, Hunter Knapp, Lily Knapp, Melody Pilling, Danny Nesel and Rebecca Nesel. He adored his great-grandchildren Alex, Cody, Caleb, Emily, Aiden and Kinsley.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be Saturday, June 22nd 11 AM at the Stone Church Cemetery, 7005 Route 9, Rhinebeck .
