William R Gay

Rhinebeck- William R. Gay, 85, a lifetime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away at the Thompson House on July 22, 2017.

Born in Rhinebeck on January 30, 1932, he was the son of the late Robert and Phyllis (Watson) Gay.

Mr. Gay served in the United States Army from 1951-1953 in the 51st Battalion.

On January 16, 1960, he married Sandra Brewer. Mrs. Gay survives at home in Rhinebeck.

Mr. Gay worked as the Supervisor for the Rhinebeck Post Office from 1964-1988. He was also a member of the VFW post 9255, the American Legion Post #429, the NRA, and the Northern Dutchess Gun Club.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sons, Robert Wallace (Karen) Gay of White Marsh Virginia and John Taylor Gay of Germantown; granddaughters Sarah and Heather; grandson James Peirson; and great grandsons Lucas and Owen.

There are no calling hours.

Private services and burial in Rhinebeck Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
