Alan Chlystun Obituary

Red Hook – Alan Jeffrey Chlystun, 77, passed away Thursday, March 24, 2022, at his home in Red Hook.

Alan was a lifelong area resident.  He graduated from Rhinebeck High School in 1963 and attended SUNY Farmingdale before enlisting in the US ARMY in 1965.  He was a decorated Veteran of the Vietnam War having served in Vietnam until his discharge in 1968.  He returned to the Hudson Valley and worked for 30 years as a photo editor for Taconic Press. 

Alan was an excellent baseball player and was the first baseman and pitcher on the softball team his brother Darrell sponsored.  He also was a lifetime Yankee fan and enjoyed his Mustang convertible and playing guitar. His best companion Zeke will miss him tremendously.

Born December 1, 1944 in Bath, Maine, he was the son of Alexander and Pauline (Thayer) Chlystun.

On February 18, 1978 at the Good Shepherd Church, Rhinebeck, he married Cecilia Brennan.  Cecilia survives at home in Red Hook.  Together they raised their two sons, Nicholas (Shannon) Chlystun of Australia, and Jeffrey Chlystun who died November 25, 2015.

Alan is also survived by his sister Brenda Chlystun-Juarez, sister Janet (Jim) Champlin, brother Darrell (Sue) Chlystun; brother-in-law Kevin ( Sherri) Brennan, Jr., sister-in-law Terry Rowcroft; brother-in-law Ed (Annie) Brennan, and many loving and wonderful nieces and nephews.  His brother-in -law Michael Rowcroft passed away in 1990.

There are no services.  Inurnment will be in Arlington National Cemetery.
