Barbara Carey

Barbara (Bobbie) Carey May 8, 1933 – April 29, 2021

Loving wife, Mom, Grammy and Gigi, passed away quietly April 29, 2021 at The Meadows at Brookmeade, Rhinebeck NY.

Bobbie grew up in Springfield, MA, graduated from Springfield High in 1951 and married her sailor man Sept 27, 1952, going where he went. After the Navy they settled in Wappingers Falls, NY, raising their family and making wonderful friends. In 1970 the family moved to the Town of Clinton, NY where Bobbie discovered the Brookmeade Baptist Home in Rhinebeck. She volunteered at the home for 35 years, coordinated fundraisers and managing the ‘coffee Shop”.  As president of the Ladies Auxiliary she raised funds to donate equipment to ‘the home’ and helped design the ‘new’ coffee shop THE NEST.

Barbara loved her family and loved to travel to see and spoil her grand children and great grand children whenever possible. 

Bobbie was pre-deceased by her husband Edward in 2013 and many family and good friends.

She is survived by her 4 children, John (Cindy) Carey of Flowery Branch GA, Stephen (Lisamarie) Carey of Rhinebeck, NY, Catherine (Ken) McLane of Denver, CO and Dan (Janet) Carey of Marlboro, NY, her sister Ruth (Frank) Kolodziej, in-laws Jackie (Jim) Engle, Tim (Sandra) Carey, Flora Carey,  5 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews and many loving family and friends. 

Barbara and Ed are married 69 years and still counting…….

Calling hours will be held on Monday, May 3rd, 2021 from 1:00 – 2:00pm with a short service at Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY. Burial and a graveside service will follow at Wurtemburg Cemetery in Rhinebeck. 

 In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Meadows at Brookmeade, 46 Brookmeade Dr, Rhinebeck NY 12572, in memory of Barbara Carey.
