Barbara Mallen Obituary

Barbara Mallen of Clinton Corners, NY, passed away on Saturday, June 14th, surrounded by her family and under the compassionate care of her medical team. She was born on November 8,1938, in Brooklyn, New York. She was the only child of Charles and Teresa Corun. She attended St. Angela’s Academy for Girls and had a charmed childhood getting into mischief with her huge array of Lennon family cousins from her mother’s extensive Irish family. As a teen, Barbara studied fine art, ice skating, dance, the piano, and horseback riding--the latter of which sparked a lifelong passion that she passed down to all of her descendants.

While majoring in Fine Arts at New York City College, Barbara met her future husband, Robert. They married soon after graduation. A few years later, they moved upstate with their two young children to a small house in Hopewell Junction and immediately purchased a four-year-old pony (Lancelot) for their four-year-old daughter (Tracie). Their third child arrived soon after, as did five standard poodles, a collection of cats, and many more horses and ponies. Their growing number of animals and kids led Barbara and Robert to Clinton Corners and their dream home, which they named Rivendell Farm.

Barbara will be remembered for her sharp wit, incredible fashion sense, her love of watercolor painting and overall artistic aesthetic, her passion and care for animals of all sorts, and most of all her deep connection with her children and grandchildren. She will also be remembered for the impactful care and support she and Robert provided for so many young people over the years, helping them to develop practical skills and open the door to brighter futures.

Barbara is survived by her children Tracie [Jonathan] Ruzicka, Scott [Jody] Mallen, Tara [Keith Kupferer] Mallen, her grandchildren Prudence [Julie] DePew, Harrison Mallen Ruzicka, Andrew [Meredith] Mallen, Shane Mallen, Katherine Mallen Kupferer, and her great-granddaughters Madeleine and Elowen. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert and her parents Charles and Teresa.
