Carl Rockhill Obituary

Carl C. Rockhill, age 90, of Rhinebeck New York passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025.  Born on May 9, 1935, his life was a testament to honesty, wisdom, and strength.

Carl was a dedicated husband to Lois, his wife of 65 years, and the devoted father to Robin, Linda, and Mark. He was the proud grandfather to eight grandchildren:  Rachel, Nicholas, Megan, Spencer, Isaac, Joey, Kayla, and Dylan.

Blessed with an analytical and inquisitive mind, Carl was always determined to figure out how something worked. His thirst for knowledge created an opportunity for him to secure a scholarship to Alfred Tech, and his strong interest in electronics led him to pursue a career as an electrical engineer at IBM. In addition, he was known throughout the community for his uncanny ability to diagnose and repair televisions and other small appliances. He built strong relationships and was always ready with a helpful suggestion.

Beyond his professional endeavors, Carl enjoyed woodworking and being near the ocean, clamming and crabbing. He was an avid gardener, and his green thumb produced a bountiful harvest that he generously shared with neighbors and friends.

As a man of faith, Carl was involved in church serving as a greeter, usher and other various roles as needed.  He eagerly participated in Bible studies and found solace and strength in his relationship with Jesus Christ. He lived his faith daily by the way he treated others with generosity and compassion.

Carl’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family, celebrating their successes, and standing by them in times of challenge. To his family, he was affectionately known as “Freddy” , always playful, with a great sense of humor. He delighted in the moments of family gatherings and loved playing cards and board games. “Freddy” is fondly remembered for enjoying eating juicy red watermelon and getting every last drop of vanilla ice cream from the bowl.

For the past few years, Carl was a resident of the Meadows at Brookmeade. Despite his infirmity, he chose to find pleasure and appreciation in the simple everyday moments; such as a gentle breeze on a warm sunny day, watching the birds, or just playing ball. His family is grateful for the considerate and compassionate care given by the staff at Brookmeade. A gentle touch or kind word always evoked a big smile and provided comfort and joy.

Carl’s calm presence and freely shared genuine smile made the world a brighter place. His laughter and wisdom were gifts to everyone who knew him. Carl will be remembered for his kindness, faith, unwavering integrity, and love for his family and friends.

A family celebration of life will be held at a later date.
