Clara Zagar

Rhinebeck – Clara Zagar, 94, passed away peacefully on January 5, 2022.

Born in Tuxedo, NY on June 16, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Andrew and Carmela Mammato.

Clara graduated from Tuxedo High School and began work at Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY where she met her husband, John B. Zagar. The two married and remained in Pearl River. After taking some time off to raise their children, Clara returned to working as a Dental Assistant for the Dental Office of Dr. Philip DiGiovanni. Mr. Zagar passed in 1980 and Clara remained in Pearl River until 2006 when she relocated to Rhinebeck, NY.

She was an avid knitter, crocheter, and loved walking around Rhinebeck, but most of all enjoyed reading.

In addition to her husband, Clara is predeceased by her siblings, Anthony, Louis, Eleanor, and Andrew Mammato.

She is survived by her children Susan (Bob) Demkowicz and John B. (Sharon) Zagar Jr. as well as her grandchildren Robert, Michael, and Peter.

There are no calling hours.

A memorial mass will be held at St. Anthony’s Parish Church in Nanuet on Thursday January 13, 2022 at 11:30 AM, 36 West Nyack Rd., Nanuet, NY.

Burial in St. Anthony’s Cemetery will follow.
