David R. Logan

David Robert Logan, 76, of Rhinebeck, New York, passed away peacefully at home on June 18, 2026.

Born on July 21, 1949, David was the son of the late Robert Logan and Lois (Decker) Logan. He lived a life defined by hard work, loyalty to family and friends, and a deep appreciation for the simple pleasures that brought him joy.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy. Following his military service, he worked for many years as a machinist with Metro-North Railroad, where he was respected for his skill, dedication, and strong work ethic.

Outside of work, David was happiest outdoors. He loved riding his motorcycle, spending time fishing, and sharing his famous fried catfish with family and friends. He enjoyed a good cigar and found great companionship in his beloved cats, Opie and Allie.

David is survived by his loving wife, Heather (MacDonald) Logan; his son, David Logan; his stepson, Sean, and Sean’s wife, Kristen; his grandchildren, Caleb and Claire; his sister, Allyson Rugar and her partner, Kenny; his nieces, Samantha, Allison, and Kayla; his nephews, Josh, Darren, Brian, and Jason; his sisters-in-law, Holly Tyrrell and her husband, Ray, and Berta Brodeck; as well as many dear friends whose lives were enriched by his friendship and good humor.

He was predeceased by his parents, Robert Logan and Lois (Decker) Logan.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to Dutchess County Hospice for their compassionate care and support. Special thanks are also extended to caregivers Kristen, Sher, and Camille for their kindness, dedication, and comfort during David’s final days.

David will be remembered for his independent spirit, his love of the outdoors, his generosity, and the countless memories he created with those fortunate enough to know him. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who shared in his life’s journey.

In accordance with David’s wishes, there will be no calling hours or funeral services.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Dutchess County Hospice or to a local cat sanctuary in David’s memory.
