David E. Maier

David Earl Maier, age 83, of Rhinebeck, NY, formerly of Evansville, IN, passed away peacefully at 1:30 p.m. EST on Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY.

David was born August 7, 1940, in Evansville, IN, to Walter and Elsie Hazel (Creek) Maier. He attended Baker Grade School and was a 1958 graduate of Central High School. He worked as a Salesman for Burch Plow Works, traveling throughout the United States from 1958-1964. David later worked for Amex Aluminum in the old Chrysler Plant from 1964-1970 until he and his family moved to Chicago, IL, and Columbus, OH, for a short time while working for Reynolds Aluminum Company from 1970-1973. He finally settled in Rhinebeck, NY, working for Jim Waters as a Field Sales Representative for 18 years before retiring in 1991. After retirement, David worked part-time for Scott’s Food Concessions, traveling the East Coast during Craft Shows, Bike Weeks, and various other conventions. David was an all-around jack-of-all-trades. In 2009, he traveled to Evansville, IN, to help his brother, John, with the family business by overseeing the expansion of Boone Funeral Home and Family Center.

David was an active Partner in Service with the Rhinebeck Lions Club alongside his wife, Joyce, who held several leadership roles with the Lions.

Due to his outgoing nature and ease with strangers, David made numerous friends during his many years of travel. One of his favorite ways to relax while on the road was to make small donations to local casinos. He was an avid softball player and overall sports fan, and he enjoyed watching his favorite teams when he had the chance, but mostly, David loved his family. He was a loving father and grandfather, as well as a wonderful brother and friend. He will be truly missed by his family and friends.

David is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Joyce (Brittingham) Maier; daughters, Sherrill Renee Maier and Angela Joy Lore (Keith); brother, John F. Maier (Martha); sister, Joyce Ann Ditzer (Dan); grandchildren, Justin Barber and Samantha Paige Lore; and great grandson, Deymian Barber.

David is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Wanda Mae (Maier) Silber, who passed away in 1976; and brother, Ronald G. “Sonny” Maier, who passed away February of 2023.

Memorial Hours for David will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY, on Wednesday November 15, 2023 from 4 PM to 7 PM.

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
