David Thomas Murray, affectionately known as "The Wheelchair Guy" and a devoted Disney enthusiast, passed away peacefully at his Florida home following a courageous battle with cancer. Surrounded by the love and comfort of his family.

Born on November 21, 1946, in Orange, New Jersey, David was the son of Thomas Murray and Ruth Pindar Murray. He grew up with a strong sense of service, dedication, and compassion that would define his life.

David proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam war from 1966 to 1970, as a Gunner's Mate Second Class, earning the rank of E-5. Serving two tours, first on the USS Buchanan, and the second as captain on a river patrol boat, ASPB River Division 153.  In recognition of his bravery and distinguished military service, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the prestigious Bronze Star Medal.

Following his military service, David devoted himself to helping others. In 1986, he founded Dave's Professional Wheelchair Repair Service, successfully operating a respected medical equipment provider business. Through his expertise, integrity, and unwavering commitment to customer care, he earned the trust and respect of many medical professionals and countless loyal clients.

David was also an active board member of the National Registry of Rehabilitation Technology Suppliers (NRRTS), where he remained at the forefront of rehabilitation technology advancements. His dedication ensured that individuals with mobility challenges received the highest standards of service and customized medical equipment to improve their quality of life.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, David was known for his larger-than-life personality, sense of humor, love for Disney, avid outdoorsman spending countless hours hunting and fishing. He treasured every moment spent with those he loved and found his greatest joy in being "Grampie."

In addition to his wife, Gloria Murray, David is survived by his children, Sean Murray (Danna Stoutenburgh) of Red Hook, Chris Murray (Elizabeth Murray) of Tivoli, and Michelle Haag (Bryan Haag) of Valatie; his cherished grandchildren, Tyler Eighmy, Meghan Murray, Kyleigh Murray, Morgan Haag, and Alexander Murray; his maternal aunt, Barbara Pindar; and his cousin, Christopher Pindar.

He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Teresa Carlson and Elaine Boesch; his brother-in-law, Henry Boesch; and his loving nieces and nephews, Victoria Boesch, Veronica Boesch, Ralph Carlson, and Kenneth Carlson.

David was predeceased by his parents; his eldest son, David T. Murray II; and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.

He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by his family, friends, colleagues, and the many lives he touched throughout his remarkable journey.

Family and friends are welcomed to pay their respects during visitation on June 29, 2026 from 4-7pm at Dapson-Chestney 51 Market Street Rhinebeck NY 12572. There will be a ceremony with honors at 7pm.
