Donald G. Countryman, 84, of Rhinecliff, passed away at his home peacefully on Thursday, September 16, 2021 with the love of his life beside him.
Born in Watertown, NY on July 7, 1937, he was the son of the late Earl and Mary (Kelly) Countryman.
Don spent most of his life upstate before meeting his soulmate Judy Coady Holsapple in the 1970’s. The two began dating in the 1980’s and Don later relocated to Rhinecliff with her.
Don worked in sales for various companies, including Rojon Electronics throughout his life, but his last career was working as a caregiver at the Anderson School for Autism.
He was an avid fisherman. He enjoyed going out on rainy nights to catch nightcrawlers with his children and tried to make it out fishing as often as he could. He loved Jeopardy. Don was a people person and was also known for always having a joke ready, not always a good one, but when he shared it, everyone laughed.
In addition to Judy, Don is survived by his children, Thomas (Suzanne) Countryman, Cheryl (Douglas) Osgood, Christopher Countryman, Colleen (Nikolay) Blagou, and his “adoptive daughter” Minnie (Jim) Wilson. He is also survived by four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
He was predeceased by his parents, his sister Joyce, and a brother Robert as well as a granddaughter Amber Pratt.
Calling hours will be held on Monday September 20 from 4pm to 7pm at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, NY.
Mass will be held on Tuesday September 21 at 2pm at the Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck with Fr. Crawford as the celebrant.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Rhinecliff.
