Doris Paquette Obituary

Red Hook  – Doris May Paquette, 89 of Red Hook, NY, passed away on December 2, 2021 at Northern Dutchess Hospital.

She was born in Fairhaven, Vermont on September 3, 1932.  She was the daughter of John and Violet (Howard) Benson and the foster daughter of Faye and Bell Carpenter.

Doris married the love of her life, Paul Robert Paquette on July 15th, 1954 in Richford, Vermont.  Doris was not only a housewife and mother; she enjoyed working at the Red Hook School District for many years and was loved by all.

Doris and Paul moved their family from Vermont to Long Island, then to Millbrook, and finally settled in Red Hook, New York where they raised their family on the Grieg Farm.

Doris was a social butterfly and made many friends throughout her life. You couldn’t go to a store, post office or out in the community without her running into folks she knew and thus a long wait for her to finish visiting with them.  She loved the holidays and could spend hours shopping.  Mom always put her children and family first and then her friends.  Mom would take folks that were away from their own families and give them a good old-fashioned meal and a place to sleep if needed.  She was always doing for others, she had a heart of gold.  No matter who you were you could never leave without a big hug from Mom.  Mom was always making home-made doughnuts for all the folks on the Greig Farm, and many others for that matter.

When Doris retired from the school, she began taking care of children so their parents could go to work.  Mom loved kids.

Doris is survived by her children Doris E. Parkinson and David of Red Hook with whom she and Paul resided for the last 10 years; Roberta P. Paquette, Pepe and LaVie of Hudson, NY; Laurie A. Paquette and Jimmy of Florida; David P. Paquette, and his wife Elaine of Poughkeepsie; Lisa M. Paquette and Haywood of Red Hook; Penny L. Paquette and Warren of Elizaville; and Jennifer Fivelsdal and Harald of Red Hook.  She is also survived by six grandchildren, Nicole (Jason G.), Jennifer (Jason M.), Ryan (Amber) Kody, Isabella, Dylan, Joanna (Trevor), and Jonathan; as well as five great grandchildren, Madison, Haley, Caden, Evan and Theo; a brother Gus; two nephews, Adrian Duranleau and Lawrence Paquette, a niece Gisele Fleury all of Vermont; and many other nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by her many “adopted” kids throughout her life.

Doris is predeceased by her husband Paul; siblings Florence, Lizzy, Bobby, Jack and Betty.
