Rhinebeck – Dr. James W. Murphy, 92, passed away Sunday, May 6, 2018, at Northern Dutchess Hospital.
Dr. Murphy was a graduate of Harvard Medical School and was in private practice in Pompton Plains, NJ, before retiring and moving to Rhinebeck 25 years ago.
He served in the US Army during WW II.
Dr. Murphy was president of the New Jersey Chapter of the American Heart Association. He enjoyed gardening, opera, and was an avid reader. His dog Mya was his special companion and will miss him greatly.
Born November 12, 1925 in Brooklyn, he was the son of James and Dorothy (Healy) Murphy
He was predeceased by his wife Mary Lucille Ward in 1993.
Dr. Murphy is survived by his close companion of many years, Dorrie Lown and her daughter Cassie Hill; his cherished and beloved family; his daughter Moira Murphy, and her husband Albert Nackley of West Roxbury, MA; his son Sean Murphy, and his wife Kathleen of Pepperell, MA; 7 grandchildren, Annaleise and Chris Nackley, Ryan, Moira, Maeve, Ciara and Aine Murphy, his brother Gerard Murphy, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers Henry and Phillip.
Calling hours are Wednesday 10 to 11 AM at the Grace Bible Fellowship, 6959 Route 9, Rhinebeck. Funeral services will begin at 11 AM. Interment will be at the Stone Church Cemetery.
