Edward J. Gower, 76, of Rhinebeck, passed away peacefully at Northern Dutchess Hospital on August 9, 2021.
Born in the Bronx, NY on March 29, 1945, he was the son of the late Kenneth and Connie (Hill) Gower.
Ed graduated from Wilkes College in 1969, with a degree in accounting, and worked at IBM in Kingston and Poughkeepsie for many years. After “retirement” from IBM, he started his own property maintenance business, which he operated for 30 years.
On June 3, 1967 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, he married Linda Dennis of Wilkes-Barre, PA. Mrs. Gower resides at The Baptist Home in Rhinebeck.
Ed was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. He cared for his beloved Linda through the challenges of Multiple Sclerosis and a traumatic brain injury. They were avid travelers, visiting Glacier National Park and the United Kingdom several times. He loved chocolate, country music, Yankee baseball, classic cars, and hiking. He was a long time member of the Rhinebeck Car Club, and past member of the Rip Van Winkle Hiking Club. He and Linda adored their children and grandchildren and were happiest in times spent with family.
In addition to his wife, Ed is survived by his children Edward Gower (Pamela), Jennifer White (Jason), Alison Sulinski (John), and Sara Schillinger (Ethan). He also leaves behind 10 grandchildren, of which he was immensely proud Jonathan, Christopher, Kayleigh, Lauren, Megan, Andrew, Matthew, Emma, Avery and Oliver.
There are no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, Rhinebeck, NY.
Memorial Donations in honor of Edward Gower can be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
