Edward Gumienny, 91, a former resident of Rhinebeck, passed away on March 20, 2025, in Safety Harbor, Florida.
Born in Poughkeepsie on August 2, 1933, he was the son of the late Alexander and Josephine (Bis) Gumienny.
Ed lived on his family farm in Staatsburg while attending Rhinebeck Schools. He helped with daily farm chores and would reminisce with his own children about everything he learned from his father.
He graduated from Rhinebeck High School in 1951 and began working for IBM in Poughkeepsie as a purchaser before leaving and starting his own contracting company, Gumienny Construction.
Ed is best known for his presence at the Dutchess County Fair Grounds as the owner and operator of the Sausage House, a stand he ran for over 30 years.
He was a very active member of the Polish Club in Poughkeepsie and enjoyed all things Polka, including Polka Dancing on Saturday nights.
Ed is survived by his children, Scott, Stephanie, Suanne, and Stasha. He is also survived by his siblings, Sophie Ceroni, Diane Leary, and Stanley; his grandchildren Erica, Amber, Travis, Kirsten and Hannah; seven great grandchildren and the mother of his children, Jan as well as several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Eugene.
