Rhinebeck – Eileen Melia, 101, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2020, at the Baptist Home, Rhinebeck.
Born September 7, 1918, in New Jersey, she was the daughter of Fred and Ethel (Jones) Schmitt.
After graduation from Holy Angels School in New Jersey she worked as a secretary for Otis Elevator in NYC. She married the love of her life James A. Melia in 1941 devoting her life to her husband and her five daughters while raising them in Stuyvesant Town, NYC. From 1990 she and her husband spent their years in the Village Green Apts., Rhinebeck. After a fall in her daughter’s home, she moved to the Baptist Home and resided there for eleven years.
She was predeceased by her husband James A. Melia in 2002.
Mrs. Melia was a communicant of the Good Shepherd Church, Rhinebeck.
She is survived by her daughters, Donna McGann, and her husband William of Rhinebeck; Colleen Melia of Albany, Maureen Melia of Albany and Laurie Rickenbaugh, and her husband Ray of Long Island. In addition she is survived by 6 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her daughter Jane Mary McDonnell; her grandson Mark McGann; and her sister Miriam
A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Good Shepherd Church; interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery, Rhinecliff.
