Elmer 'Buddy' Coon Obituary

Elmer (Buddy) W. Coon, 86, of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin passed away Sunday, June 17, 2018, at Emerald Shores Assisted Living in Kewaunee, Wisconsin.

Born on November 12, 1931 in Red Hook, New York, he is the son of the late William and Evelyn (Rhynders) Coon.  Right out of high school he served our country for four years with the Marine Corps in the Korean War.

On November 15, 1958 he married Dorothy L. Rogers at the Reformed Church in Rhinebeck, New York.  Elmer and Dorothy raised four children in Rhinebeck, David Coon of Rhinebeck, Jill (Harold) Rogers of Englewood, Colorado, Tim Coon of Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin, and Stacy (Todd) Weber of Baileys Harbor, Wisconsin.

He is survived by his wife, children and three grandchildren, Megan, Joseph, and Sean; brother Howard and sisters Helen and Sandy.  Elmer was preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Marian, Alice, and Shirley

Elmer was employed at Western Publishing in Poughkeepsie, New York and then transferred to Racine, Wisconsin in 1983.  After his retirement, he moved to Door County and worked part-tie at Main Street Market in Egg Harbor, Wisconsin.

Elmer loved baseball and especially rooting for the New York Yankees.  He shared his love of baseball by coaching Little League in Rhinebeck.  He also enjoyed golf, bowling and Green Bay Packers football.

Elmer was a member of the YMCA and also served as an usher for many years at the Community Church in Fish Creek, Wisconsin.  He was a man of few words but we knew we were important to him.

Huehns Funeral Home will prepare him for his final resting place at Nicolet Gardens in Green Bay, Wisconsin.  No services are planned.  Any memorials can be given to either the Community Church in Fish Creek or the First Baptist Church in Sturgeon Bay.

Family members would like to thank the staff of Emerald Shores for all of their wonderful care and also to Heartland Hospice.
