James Hobson Obituary

It is with deep sorrow that the family of James (Jim) Douglas Hobson
announce his passing on December 22nd, 2025, in Rhinebeck, NY. He was
a beloved husband to Kathryn Hobson, his true love for 63 years, father to
Karin Brodbeck (Ronald), Jennifer Brodbeck (Kenny), and Jeff Hobson
(Tammy Crandall). He was also the grandfather of Nikki (Yoshi), Sara
(Mark), Eric (Amelia), Mark (Kaitlynn), Cassie, Ryan and Derek. He is
survived by his sister, Phyllis Heywood, and brothers Glen (Diane) Hobson,
Gary Hobson and Dale (Jen) Hobson. Cherished by many additional
relatives and friends, he will be deeply missed.

Born in Long Branch, NJ, his family moved back to NY and settled in
Rhinebeck shortly after WWII, where he lived his entire life. He was
employed and was Vice President of Hobson’s Appliance, a business his
father started in Rhinebeck, for his entire career. He was generous of heart
and well known in the community. His sense of humor and quick wit, and
his wisdom and gentle guidance will be remembered by all whose lives he
touched. Jim was also moved to serve his community as a member of the
Hillside Fire Department for a number of years.

Jim had a deep respect for our US Veterans and servicemen, and was
always interested in WWII stories. He was a tinkerer and had a knack for
fixing gadgets and motors due to his intense understanding of working
mechanics. He loved antiques and vintage cars, and even restored a few.
Jim took pride in keeping vegetable and flower gardens. He loved the
outdoors, and had a strong affection for animals and nature. He adored
babies and children.

The memories we hold—of shared stories, celebrations, and quiet
moments—remain a testament to the impact his life made on his family and
those around him. His legacy will live on and so we find comfort in knowing
that his spirit endures in our hearts.

Jim’s family will gather to honor his memory on Tuesday 6th January, 2026
at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home in Rhinebeck, NY from 10AM to 12 PM.

Prayers will be offered at 12 PM at the Funeral Home.

Thereafter, he will be laid to rest at the Rhinebeck Cemetery. May he
rest in peace, knowing he was deeply loved and will never be forgotten.
