Jean Saltmarsh Obituary

Jean Dodge Saltmarsh, passed away on December 10, 2020 in Highland, NY.

Born in Norton, VT June 2, 1928 she was the daughter of the late Kenneth F. Dodge and Margaret Devost Dodge.

After her parent’s divorce, she moved to Weare, NH where she was raised by paternal grandparents George and Nelle Dodge and their daughter Ruth. 

Jean attended Weare Schools and graduated from Weare High School 1946. She then went to Mt Ida Junior College and Plymouth NH Teachers College in 1950, graduating with a BA in Education.  She taught school in Concord NH and Watertown CT. 

On June 24th 1951 she was married to Donald W. Saltmarsh.  After his Army discharge, they moved to CT.  They had a daughter Sarah Dodge Saltmarsh born November 17, 1967.

They also lived and worked in NJ & NY before moving to Windsor, VT for Donald’s last job as Superintendent of schools.  While in Windsor, Jean substituted in local schools, was an active volunteer in the Windsor Public Library and Old South Church.

She enjoyed cooking and having the “Girls” for luncheons and delivery cookies to many.

In the fall of 2007 she moved to Poughkeepsie, NY to be near her family.

Jean was pre-deceased by her husband in 1993 and her Aunt Ruth in 2013.

Survivors include her daughter Sarah S. Foster, her husband Ronald W. Foster Jr. as well as grandson Christian Foster of Poughkeepsie, NY.  She is also survived by two half-sisters Laurie Buldoc of NH and Beverly Filmore of FL and brother, Peter Dodge in NH. 

At her request there will be no memorial service.

Arrangements are under the direction of the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, Rhinebeck, NY.
