Joan “Omi” Savery, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away peacefully at the Baptist Home on December 20, 2019 surrounded by her three daughters.
Born in Brooklyn, NY on September 7, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William Francis and Catherine Amanda (Higgins) Brown.
Joan grew up in Coney Island before moving to Staten Island where she raised her five children while working as a secretary for Staten Island Community College.
She moved to Rhinebeck in the early 90’s to live with her youngest daughter.
Known by everyone as Omi, she was a talented sewer, seamstress, loved cooking and baking as well as spending time with her family. She played an active roll in her grandchildren’s lives and was blessed to meet her first great grandchildren.
Joan is survived by her daughters Cathleen (Tom) Savery, Marya (Tommy) Stanzione, and Peta (Stephen) Bartles; a sister Carol DeCaprio; daughter-in-law Patrice Savery; 10 grandchildren and several great grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her sons Christopher and Daniel Savery and three sisters.
There are no calling hours.
Services are private and at the convenience of the family.
