Joan Wager of Rhinebeck, NY passed away peacefully April 12 at Montgomery Nursing Home after a prolonged illness at the age of 75. Joan is predeceased by her husband Chauncey Wager. Is survived by her daughter Jeanne Wager, grandson Nicholas Sokolich, granddaughter Nadia Sokolich and great grandson Dalton Roberts.
She taught third grade for 33 years at Netherwood Elementary in Hyde Park, NY. There were many of her students she thought of fondly through the years after retiring. As much as she loved teaching she loved her summers off. She could always be found outside gardening or mowing sunup to sundown.
Through her long illness she never gave up and battled with grace and dignity and kept her signature big smile.
Her love for animals knew no bounds especially for her dog Cookie her cat Toby, both rescues.
In lieu of flowers please send a donation to the Ulster County SPCA.
