Rhinebeck – John O. Alberg, 79, passed away on September 4, 2024 at Vassar Brother’s Medical Center in Poughkeepsie.
Born in Poughkeepsie on October 22, 1944, he was the son of the late Thorvald and Margaret Alberg.
In 1967 in Pleasant Valley, NY, he married Judy Walberg. Judy predeceased him in 1989.
John loved to travel, visiting places like Germany, France, and Belgium, but he most enjoyed going cross country with his family. He was an avid hunter and a member of the Neighbors Gun Club as well as a devoted fisherman, happy to cast his line out anywhere for any kind of fish.
He worked for many years as the groundskeeper for Ferncliff Nursing Home.
In addition to his wife Judy, he was predeceased by a brother Kenneth, a brother Jackie, and his son John Jr.
John is survived by His children, Margaret (Darryl), Daniel (Christa), Lisa (Nick), and Jennifer (Patrick); grandchildren Brandon, Alec, Pierce, Kayla, Emily, Michael, Kristen, and Kayla; 9 great grandchildren; and sisters Patricia and Susan as well as many nieces and nephews.
Calling Hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck on Thursday September 12 from 4PM to 6PM.
A Funeral Service will be held at the funeral home on Friday September 13 at 11AM.
Burial will follow in the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
