John Clifford Obituary

Rhinebeck - John G. Clifford, 67, passed away Friday, January 15, 2021 at Northern Dutchess Hospital.

During his adolescence, John worked every summer as a counselor at St. Vincent de Paul Camp in Rock Hill, NY. His time at the camp started many life-long friendships which eventually brought him to Rhinebeck. After graduating from Iona College, John worked as an auditor for Chemical Bank in Manhattan. In 1988, John moved to the Hudson Valley and worked for the Rhinebeck Savings Bank. Subsequently, he worked at the Anderson School in Staatsburg and the Astor Home in Rhinebeck until 1999. After suffering a severe back injury, John spent much of his time at home. John was an avid reader and traveler. He loved his mini-vacations to North Carolina every summer, and his driving tours through the Hudson Valley. Many friends from his days at Camp St. Vincent had also moved to Rhinebeck and Red Hook, providing John with a wonderful and loving community. From 1988 to 2016, John lived  in the same house in Rhinebeck with his close friend, Frank Mulhern and family. He moved into Wells Manor in Rhinebeck before residing at Renaissance Nursing home in 2019. John was a warm, friendly and engaging person to all who met him. He shall always be remembered for his great sense of humor. his Irish wit and his vast knowledge on many subjects. He is missed already.

Born December 9, 1953 in Bronx, NY, he was the son of Edward and Margaret (King) Clifford.

John is survived by his sister Margaret Nau, brother Edward Clifford; his nieces and nephews Andrew Nau, Jacqueline Nau, James Clifford and Meaghan Clifford; and his best friend Frank Mulhern.
