John Harrison, Jr. Obituary

John R. Harrison Jr., 65, born in  Rhinebeck, passed away at home in Clinton Corners on July 29, 2021, shortly after the arrival of his newest granddaughter.

Born on February 14, 1956, he was the son of John and Barbara Harrison Sr. who reside in Red Hook.

After completing his BA degree at SUNY Brockport, John returned to the area to begin his lifelong career in the building trades, eventually having his own general contracting business. He was well known for his professional work but more importantly he treated his customers with respect and kindness. John's reputation in the community of Rhinebeck is unparalleled: deeply caring, loyal, loving and above all, a man of his word.

On November 11th, 2000 John married Ann Weiss. They shared a beautiful life for 21 years at their farm in Clinton Corners, NY.

John was well known for his love of antique & sports cars, fishing, bowling and golf. He enjoyed annual trips with friends to car shows, boat shows and NASCAR races, and the family trips to the 1000 Islands and Outer Banks. He also loved to watch soccer, no matter what language the announcer was speaking! The common thread of John’s interests was spending time with his friends and family, no matter where or when. John was also a staple at the American Legion Post 429, where he was a member of the Sons of the American Legion.

In addition to his parents and his wife, John is survived by his sons, John (Sophia) and William (Heather Towne), his granddaughters Stella and Violet Harrison, his step children, Greg (Brittany) and Katha (Garrett Warner) Gatto, grandson Griffin Gatto and sister Nancy (Larry Phillips) Harrison.

John was one of a kind. Truly.

A gathering in honor of John will be held at the Red Hook Golf Club, 650 NY-199, Red Hook, NY 12572, on August 29, 2021, from 3PM to 7PM. All are welcome.

Memorial donations in honor of John can be made to the American Legion Post 429, 6361 Mill Street, Rhinebeck NY 12572.
