John Livingston

John Livingston, 82,  a long time resident of Red Hook NY passed away June 15, 2024.  John was born in Greenville, NH the youngest child of Oscar and Dorothy (Osgood) Livingston.  At the age of 18 John enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and was trained as a radar repairman.  After leaving the military he enjoyed a long career at IBM retiring in 1983.  

During his retirement John enjoyed spending time golfing, fishing, and skiing with his family and friends. He was easily liked and made friends every place he went. He loved to tell stories, corny jokes and just share himself with the people he met. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it.  

In 2005 soon after hurricane Katrina devastated parts of Louisiana and Mississippi John traveled south to help rebuild houses and the lives of those affected by the disaster, returning again 5 years later to continue helping those in need.  This experience led him to volunteer locally for Columbia-Greene Habitat for Humanity in Hudson NY.  During this time he helped to build houses in Hudson and Valatie as a volunteer coordinator.  John received volunteer of the year award in 2011, also serving on the board of directors up until the spring of 2020.

John leaves a loving wife Wendy, children Robert, Sandra (Rene), step-children Christopher Vaillancourt, Brian (Pam) Vaillancourt and David (Liz) Vaillancourt, granddaughters Haley and Sydney Livingston.  Additional family Barb (Lee) Blum, Jackie (Bob) Flathau, Lori Livingston, many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

Immediate family will have a private burial at Rosendale Cemetery.
