John Leslie Prutton, 56, a resident of Oak Harbor, Washington and Rhinebeck, New York passed away unexpectedly on November 27, 2019 in Oak Harbor.
Born in Montgomery, West Virginia on November 23, 1963, John was the son of the late Rev. Leslie and Theo Prutton. He graduated from Rhinebeck in 1982.
He is survived by his sister, Wendy Prutton, niece Heather (Sean) Howard, and great nephews, Charlie and Ben Howard.
During his career, John served as an MP in the US Army from 1982-1985, worked at the Astor Home for Children from 1991-2001, and also worked in the catering industry in the many places he lived throughout the country.
John was a free spirit who loved music, especially the Grateful Dead, camping and traveling. He was a kind man who loved his friends, family and newly adopted cat.
A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, April 26th at the Rhinebeck American Legion Post 429 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in honor of John can be made to the Church of the Messiah in Rhinebeck.
