Rhinebeck – Linda Niles Faber, 88, passed away at her home in Rhinebeck on August 22, 2023.
Born in Elmira, NY on January 21, 1935, she was the daughter of the late Roy and Gladys (Thompson) Niles.
On April 19, 1969, she married Edwin Faber. The two lived in St. Lucia for several years before moving back to the Hudson valley in 1976. Mr. Faber predeceased Linda in 2018.
Linda taught English at Haviland Middle Schools and in Medellin, Columbia as well as working for the American Field Service in New York City.
She also helped found the student organization Youth Against Racism, served in the Rhinebeck School Board for one term and worked for Dutchess County Board of Education.
Linda was a big supporter of Planned Parenthood of the Hudson Valley, helping chair many of their fundraising events.
Linda is survived by her children, Edwin "Win" C. Faber, III (Julie) of Red Hook; Amy Faber Knobbs (Scott) of Seattle; five grandchildren: Samuel Faber, Eleanor Faber, Jacob Faber, Katherine Knobbs, and Emma Knobbs; a niece, Barbie Painter; a nephew, Corning Painter (Dorothy) and great nephews, Kyle Painter, Edward Painter, and John Painter.
In addition to her husband Edwin, she was predeceased by a sister-in-law, Joan Painter.
Memorial Hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., on September 15th from 4-6 PM
A Memorial Service will be held at the Church of the Messiah, 6436 Montgomery St., Rhinebeck, NY, on September 16 at 11:00 AM.
Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family at the St. John’s Cemetery in Barrytown, NY.
