Malden, NY - Lisa M. Tortarella, 54, passed away suddenly at Kingston Hospital on Wednesday, December 30, 2020.
She was born on October 6, 1966 in Rhinebeck, New York, to the late Carmine Tortarella, Jr. and Patricia A. Tortarella. She resided in Rhinebeck, New York, until 1975 when her family moved to Saugerties. She graduated from Saugerties High School in 1984
Lisa was employed in a number of occupations beginning with her first job at Adams Fairacre Farms. She also worked at Sawyer Savings bank as a teller, managed the End Zone Bar for several years before beginning employment as a waitress at the Village Diner for ten years. She was most recently self-employed providing house cleaning services.
Lisa will be remembered by all who knew her as a caring, giving person. She gave generously of her time and resources to many she encountered in her lifetime. She will always be remembered as an accomplished baker. She baked cakes for many birthdays and other occasions. She was known for her cupcakes which she provided to the Elks Lodge in Saugerties for special events where she also played dartball. She also posted many photos on her Facebook page of things she had prepared and received wonderful comments on her creations. She traveled several times to Bermuda, Wildwood Crest and Mystic. She resided on the Hudson River in Malden and followed the Hudson River barge and tugboat traffic. She provided many photos of them on Facebook. She also enjoyed seeing and feeding the many birds and squirrels where she lived. Lisa loved the holidays and decorated for all of them. Totes and totes of decorations filled her closets.
Lisa is survived by her mother, Patricia A. Tortarella; her sister, Tracy, and her husband, Steven Whitaker; her niece, Jessie Whitaker; her nephew, Trevor Whitaker; her uncle and aunt, Rodney and Sharon Tortarella; her aunt and uncle, Karen and Jose Silveira; her uncle and aunt, Robert and Diane Farrell; her aunt, Cynthia Farrell and her partner, Julie Vassilakos; and her uncle and aunt, Douglas and Edith Lattin. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. Lisa is also survived by her beloved dog, Sadie.
Calling hours are Thursday, January 7, 2021, at 10:00 – 11:30 AM at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, New York. Funeral services will begin at 11:30, and interment will follow at the Rhinebeck Cemetery. The funeral will be viewable on Facebook Live by visiting Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home’s facebook page.
