Rhinebeck- Lois F. Stets, 99, a lifetime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away peacefully on Friday September 16 at the Thompson House.
Born in Poughkeepsie, N.Y. on September 27, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Melvin and Cecelia (Day) Shook.
Lois graduated from Rhinebeck High School in 1940 and attended New Paltz State College. She was employed for many years by Rhinebeck Grand Union.
Lois and her husband Adam enjoyed designing and building homes together. They also loved to travel. This interest stayed with her throughout her life. She traveled with her family every year. At the age of 75 she took up the game of golf. Lois enjoyed painting and attended painting classes held at the Rhinebeck Reform Church. She exhibited her work in their art shows. Lois was also on the AARP Board of Directors for many years.
Lois had a strong love of family and gathered the family together for Christmas celebrations. Everyone has warm and vivid memories of those times that will never be forgotten. Lois was a sincere, warm, and generous person. She was a wonderful mother that guided and encouraged you and gave you all her love. Someone you wanted to get to know and would never forget. She will be deeply missed but never forgotten.
Lois was predeceased by her beloved husband Adam Stets and dear sister Melvina Lehr.
Lois is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Valerie and Dennis Bakoledis as well as nephews Charles Lehr (Cherie) and Michael Lehr (Mary).
