Marcia Lancto Obituary

Rhinebeck- Marcia Frances Lancto, 85, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023 at the Baptist Home.

 

Born on March 25, 1938 in the Bronx, she was the daughter of the late Michael and Marcella (Sheil) Faroulo.

 

Marcia graduated with a BA in Social Studies from the College of Saint Rose, and also trained in Nursing. For several years, she substitute taught for various schools in the area and also took care of her growing family.

 

In 1978, Marcia and her husband Russell purchased the Rhinebeck Tack & Leather Shop, and ran the business successfully for over 20 years. During this time, it became one of the top grossing tack & leather shops in the country, and they were frequently seen at equestrian events around the Hudson Valley.

 

Marcia was an avid skier and enjoyed teaching her sons the sport. Marcia and Russell enjoyed volunteering at Windham Mountain where they lived during the winter for the last two decades.  She loved sailing with her husband on Fishers Island Sound and the Mystic River near their summer home in Mystic, CT. She was also active in the Rhinebeck community, serving as the Chairman of the Zoning Board and Zoning Enforcement Officer in Rhinebeck, as well as being the first  President of the Southlands Foundation.

 

Marcia was predeceased by her husband Russell Lancto in 2017 after 57 years of marriage.

 

She is survived by her sons Michael (Patti) Lancto and Matthew (Heide) Lancto; her grandchildren Megan (Chris) Torncello, Jack Lancto, and Michael Lancto; and her great grandchildren Mia and Chloe.

 

There are no calling hours.

 

Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
