Maureen K. Jeffreys, 93, passed away peacefully at her home on Saturday September 30, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Maureen is survived by 12 children, 18 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Her husband, Thomas R. Jeffreys, a grandson - Benjamin Bortzfield, and her only sibling Thomas Pugh predeceased her.
Maureen was born on December 30,1929 to Thomas J. Pugh and Kathleen (Dempsey) Pugh. She graduated from the Mary Louise Academy in Queens, NY in 1947. She married Thomas R. Jeffreys on April 17,1948 at St. Joseph’s Roman Catholic church in Brooklyn, NY. In 1957, Maureen and Thomas moved to Rhinebeck to raise their growing family. Lifelong sweethearts, Maureen and Thomas were married for 64 years until his passing in 2012.
Maureen’s joy and belief in her faith was strong and was reflected in how she cared for and interacted with those around her. She will be remembered for her friendly smiles, listening ear, and patient caring. For many years, she was actively involved in the Good Shepherd parish as a parent, a catechist, a Eucharistic minister, and, later, after receiving her degree from Mount Saint Mary College, as a coordinator of religious education at both Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck and Holy Trinity Church in Poughkeepsie. She has been a spiritual guide and support to her family and friends and a joyful role model of a loving Christian life.
Maureen is survived by her twelve children: Therri Jeffreys Bortzfield of East Islip, Thomas and his wife Debbie (Flock) of Red Hook, Kathi Jeffreys Nenni of Jonestown, TX, Eileen Jeffreys of Rhinebeck, Kevin and his wife Ruth (Boyer) of Rhinecliff, Maureen Jeffreys of Elizaville, Deborah Jeffreys Tran of Houston, TX, James and his wife Wendy (Foss) of Milan, Mary Jeffreys Coleman and her husband Doug Roberts of Columbus, OH, John and his wife Rebecca (Cormier) of Surfside, SC, Ann Jeffreys Hritz and her husband Kevin Hritz of Bridgewater, CT, and Christopher and his wife Brandi (Harkness) of Orlando, FL.
Calling hours will be on Thursday, 10/5/2023 from 4-7 PM at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home at 51 West Market Street, Rhinebeck, NY. A mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at Good Shepherd church 92 East Market Street, Rhinebeck, NY at 10 AM on Friday, 10/6/2023. Interment will be at the convenience of the family.
