Mildred Katherine Indelicato Van Wagner Herron, 97, passed away peacefully on July 15, 2023 at the Renaissance Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center.
Born in Pittsfield, MA on October 1, 1925, Mildred “Millie”, was the daughter of the late Frederick and Victoria (Gerrard) Stetson.
Millie was a lifetime member of the VFW Red Hook Auxiliary #7765; a past Exalted Ruler of the Red Hook and Rhinebeck Elks Lodge #2022; a former 4-H leader in Staatsburg; and a member The Poughkeepsie Moose Lodge #904.
She worked for the Wallace and Newstat Drug Store in Poughkeepsie, as a clerk for Effron Oil Co., and finished as a Nurses Assistant at Ferncliff Nursing Home before her retirement.
For over five years, she volunteered for veterans in local nursing homes, bringing them birthday cards, handmade blankets and Christmas Presents. In her later years, she would knit or crochet blankets to donate to the local ASPCA’s and local veterinary offices.
Millie was predeceased by her husbands, Onofiro Indelicato, Donald Van Wagner, and John L. “Jack” Herron; a son-in-law Robert Brammer; her half-sisters Patricia, Marie, and JoAnn; a step-child John L. Herron and a great grandson John Herron.
She is survived by her daughters Mildred (fiancé Charles) Brammer, Mary (Wayne) Farley, Laura (Thomas) Cullen, Sandra (Ray) Hicks; step-children Susan (William) Evans, Maryann (Mike) Hinchey, Catherine (Phillip) Matthews; close in-laws Judy and Tom Finnerty; 16 grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; as well as a niece Cheri Kehlenbeck and a nephew Dan Smith.
Memorial Hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., Rhinebeck, on Saturday July 29 from 10am to 11:30am. Services by the Red Hook/Rhinebeck Elks Lodge #2022 will be held during memorial hours.
