Rhinebeck – Nancy J. Mellott, 87, a longtime resident of Rhinebeck, passed away on September 18, 2023.
Born in Washington D.C. on April 7, 1936, she was the daughter of the late Paul R. and Alice (Hovermill) Mellott.
Nancy was an active member of the Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck for over 60 years. She served as a Eucharist Minister, Lector, a member of the Parish council, and worked on the church finance committee. In addition to an active church life, she was a member of the Women’s Society, the Caregiver Coalition, and the Ladies of Charity of Northern Dutchess.
She loved flowers, gardening and attending craft shows.
She worked as the Executive Secretary for the Astor Home in Rhinebeck for 43 years.
Nancy is survived by her sister Patricia Mellott Harwood and her husband Neddy of Maryland; godchildren Kristen Hobson, Courtney Reichelt, and Meghan Betanzos; nephews Richard Mellott, Michael Mellott, Patrick Mellott, Christopher Harwood, Cory Harwood, and Curtis Harwood; niece Teri Cole; many great nieces and nephews; and close friends Betty and John Sturm as well as Rudy Marks.
She was predeceased by her siblings Mary E. Deadmon and Paul R. Mellott.
Calling hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., on Sunday September 24, from 2 pm to 4 pm.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday September 25 at 10 am at the Good Shepherd Church in Rhinebeck.
Burial will follow at the Rhinebeck Cemetery.
