Nellie Besze

Nellie R. Besze, 85, resident of Staatsburg since 1968, passed away at Northern Dutchess Hospital in Rhinebeck, NY on June 2, 2025 surrounded by her loving family.

Born on March 23, 1940, in Phillipi, West Virginia. She was the beloved daughter of the late Hester and Mae Violet Wagner Shahan.

On April 9, 1960, Nellie married Vincent P. Besze in Baltimore Maryland. Vincent survives at home.

She enjoyed gardening, cooking to very high standards, and lunching with her monthly ladies group.  She loved long scenic car rides, and traveling throughout the various states to visit her family and friends. Most of all, she loved holding babies, teaching children kindness, and caring with her whole heart for all of her grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, Nellie is survived by her children Vincent J. Besze and wife Heather Besze, Bryan C. Besze and wife Elaine Besze, Jennifer 

Gleason, and husband Charles Gleason Jr. Nephew Steven Bradshaw and great niece Leann Bradshaw Andrews. Siblings Isabelle Faison and Robert Shahan. Brother in Law and Sister in Laws, Fredrick Harris and wife Suzanne Harris, and Karen Shahan. Grandchildren, Jonathon Besze, partner Carla Cinelli, Brittney Besze, partner Adam Patsey, Devin and wife Maryssa Besze, Benjamen Besze, partner Maggie Nealy, and Caiden and Reece Gleason. Great grandchildren Gianna Skelly and Sophia Patsey, and countless nieces, nephews, and cousins. 

Calling Hours will be held at the Dapson-Chestney Funeral Home, 51 W. Market St., on Wednesday June 11 from 4PM to 6PM.
